In the early morning of Sunday, February 15, 2026, a businessman came to open his shop located at Pathatula Tarapur Tea Estate in Sylhet City as his daily routine. He noticed smoke coming out from inside the nearby Shree Shree Gour-Nitai Hindu Temple. He understood the situation and urgently communicated on the arson attack with the locals who then rushed and put out the fire. Local Hindus are feeling extremely worried and angry due to the arson attack.
The sacred Hindu religious book Bhagabad Gita, other sacred books, Photos of Hindu deities, and all worshipping items inside the temple are fully destroyed by the arson attack. The interior of the temple also is extensively damaged by the fire.
The Police on information visited the damaged temple and collected evidences of the damage. However, the local police station stated that a written compliant is not yet submitted to the Police.
Local devotees stated that Hindu worships and religious programs are being held regularly at this temple for the past three years. The devotees are fearing for their safety and security due to this sudden fire incident. They are suspecting this incident as a planned arson attack and demanding proper investigation of the incident.
The local Hindu community leaders and residents voiced their strong condemnation of the incident. They have demanded that the criminals involved in this arson attack be identified, arrested, and punished without delay. They also demanded that the local Police strengthen the law & order situation of the temple and the surrounding area to prevent such attacks in the future.
