On Tuesday, February 12, 2026, the 13th national election was held in Bangladesh. Since that day, local Muslims launched violent attacks on many families including Hindu families in Hatiya sub-district of Noakhali district in Bangladesh. The attackers vandalized Hindu houses and physically assaulted and injured Hindu people.
The victim families, having no protection from the Government law enforcement Police and Military forces, organized a Human Chain in protest of the attacks seeking justice. The Human Chain was held at Riaz Market area of Ward #8 under Sonadia Union of Hatiya Upazila (Sub-District) on February 15, 2026. More than 50 victims formed the Human Chain, described the details on the damages and losses they are forced to and demanded judicial intervention and punishment of the attackers.
The victims accused that since the election day, the NCP supporters (NCP is another political party) attackers created a horror environment in Sonadia Bangla Bazar and Riaz Market area. They have attacked and vandalized at least 10 Hindu houses after the election results announced. They entered the houses, threatened using abusive language, looted the properties and also attacked and injured cattle. Even though three days passed since the election day, the attackers continued to violently assaulting the victims wherever they see them.
Victims namely Mr. Deepak Chandra Das, Mr. Durjoy Dhan Das, Ms. Priyanka Bala Das, Mr. Kakan Chandra Das, Mr. Sahadeb Das, Emran, Majnu, Shahensah and many others made statements at the Human Chain.
The victims demanded that the law & order enforcement brings this anarchy under control without further delay and punish the attackers through the law enforcement and the government administration. The victims also demanded proper intervention from the newly elected member of Parliament Abdul Hannan Masud.
Victim Deepak Chandra Das communicated that the night following the election day, the NCP activists physically assaulted him and his son in the bazaar area. The attackers questioned them – Why did you cast your votes for “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol (Bengali: ধানের শীষ) now? You (Hindus) always voted for Awami League in the past. It can be noted that “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol (Bengali: ধানের শীষ) is the election symbol of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the political party that won the election.
Durjay Dhan Das’ wife complained that the attackers physically beat and injured cattle and threatened them to leave their house. Mr. Kakan Chandar Das complained that the attackers injured him with a hammer in the bazar area and looted the cash from his pocket.
Multiple Hindu female victims complained that during the “Victory procession”, the attackers entered the houses and tried to abduct the male family members by violently attacking them, and threatened them all with violent attacks. A lot of Hindu people went on hiding leaving their houses fearing for life.
The victims stated that an organized criminal circle is involved in these attacks under the leadership of Muslim men namely Enayet Hussein, Mohiuddin, Hannan Dubai, Osman, and Jahirul Islam. The victims also named Naim, Kausar, Jewel, Shakib, Shuvo, Hassan, Sampad, Nishan, and Jitan as the assistant cohorts of these leaders.
HUMAN RIGHTS NOTE: Every adult citizen has the democratic right to vote any candidate of any political party as the voter chooses. Casting ballot for a specific political party cannot be the reason for such violent attacks. Basically voting in election is used as a justification for this new wave of attacks on Hindu religious minorities by Bangladesh Government. The clear objective is to TERRORIZE and exterminate Hindu religious minorities from Bangladesh. Hindus convert to Muslim succumbing to terrorism, KILLED, starve to death, or FLEE from Bangladesh entering mostly the neighboring India.
