Dilip Das, 47, a Hindu businessman, was the owner of a gold jewelry store named “Dilip Swarnalay” located in Nayarhat Bazaar Swarnapotti, a street known for its numerous gold jewellery shops. This area is located under Ashulia Police Station in Dhaka district.
On Sunday evening at around 9 PM, Dilip alongside his wife Saraswati Das, was about to close his store at the end of just another business day. According to eye witnesses, three armed men arrived in a white car at that moment and detonated crude bombs to create panic. They then stabbed Dilip indiscriminately and snatched away the bag of gold containing about 25 bhori gold he was carrying. They then detonated a few more crude bombs and sped away in their car fleeing.
A gravely injured and profusely bleeding Dilip was rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital in critical condition, but he succumbed to his grave injuries during the treatment.
Law enforcers were visiting the crime scene and a police investigation was underway at the time of the report by the Daily Star newspaper as per Mr. Kamal Hossain, Inspector (investigation) of Ashulia Police Station.
Bangladesh Government’s complicity: It can be noted that the overall law & order situation in Bangladesh has drastically worsened since August 5, 2024 with the ouster of the previous government. Hindu religious minorities once again have become a primary target of criminal and terrorist attacks across Bangladesh. According to the population proportion with 91% Muslims, less than one Hindu should be a target of violent attack for every nine attacks on Muslims. However, the reality is otherwise for Hindus. The attackers are mostly at large due to the reluctance of the government to arrest them and often the attackers have victimized the Hindu victims with direct or silent support from the Government.
SAVE Religious Minorities in Bangladesh:
We, the Bangladeshi Hindus, the victims of rampant violent terrorist and criminal attacks, demand that Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief of Bangladesh Government, assumes the responsibility, arrest each and every attacker and deliver exemplary punishment.
The international community, which defends human rights and international law, should stand up to protect human rights of the Hindus and all other religious minorities in Bangladesh. We appeal to the Western Power (NATO countries, Australia, New Zealand) who put utmost importance on human rights to intervene and protect our lives and livelihood in Bangladesh.
