Penalty: Hindu students must pay a higher enrollment fee

On October 21, 2024, the principal of Kanaighat Government College located in Sylhet district published his signed official student “Enrollment Notice” in his official letterhead (Official letterhead of Bangladesh Government). The enrollment notice is applicable for all students that want to apply for the 1st year admission in to the two-year degree (pass) program based on the 1st merit list published by the National University. The notice listed tw0 different Enrollment Fee based on the religious affiliation of the applicant student as below:

  • Muslim student  —— Taka 2,915.00/-
  • Student that belongs to Hindu religion ——– Taka 3,080/-

Hindu students need to pay a higher fee which is Taka 165 more than Muslim students. This is an unprecedented level of financial discrimination of Hindu people by the Government in clear violence of the constitution of the country. The original notice in Bangla, the official language of Bangladesh, is as below:
