Hindu priest injured as bomb exploded at Kaligachh Tala Kali Temple

In the evening of Saturday, March 7, 2026, local Hindus were attending their weekly worship of Hindu God Shani inside a local temple named Kaligachh Tala Kali Temple located at Baganbari Thakurpara area in Cumilla city. Some local Muslim men entered the temple carrying a bomb in a bag and exploded the bomb inside the temple. The explosion injured the Priest  Keshab Chakraborty, covered the temple with smoke and caused panic among the worshippers who ran for shelter.

The Daily Star newspaper reported that two other men namely Abdul Barek and Jihad were also injured when the attackers exploded two more crude bombs in front of a nearby Buddhist temple and a private office while fleeing. Priest Keshob Chakraborty, 48, and two others received primary treatment at a hospital, said Md Touhidul Anwar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station.

Human Rights Analysis Hindus and Hindu temples are being attacked on a daily basis in Bangladesh since the regime change on August 5, 2024. Numerous Hindu temples and deities have been vandalized across the country since then. Bangladesh news media rarely published such attacks on Hindus in the Dr. Muhammad Yunus led Bangladesh. Power has been transferred to the recently elected Government on February 14, 2026.
