Around 3 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Police recovered the body of a youth named Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik from a car repair shop (auto mechanic shop) in the Sahepratap area of Narsingdi, Bangladesh. Chanchal was sleeping inside the locked shop when he was doused with some flamable liquis such as petrol or kerosene and burnt alive to death. Chanchal was just 22 year old and a Hindu by religion, a religious minority in Muslim majority Bangladesh.
Chanchal’s body was found in a shop at Khanabari Mosque Market. He was an employee of the shop where he was working for the past few years. He was from Lakshmipur village in Barura upazila of Cumilla who was the sole earning member of the family providing for his ailing father and a disabled older brother.
The CCTV footage posted on YouTube clearly captured the scene that someone set Chanchal, asleep on the floor of the shop, on fire. As the fire raged engulfing Chanchal entirely, the murderer walked out as captured on camera. Police said they have collected some CCTV footage from the scene. A few people were seen in front of and around the shop, but no one’s involvement has been confirmed yet. The crime is being investigated by Police.
