On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, about 50 year old Hindu businessman Khokan Chandra Das was returning home on autorickshaw at around 10 PM. A group of men attacked him with sharp weapons. They robbed him of the cash he was carrying with him and stabbed him with sharp weapons severely injuring him. The attackers then poured petroleum on him and set him alive on fire. Victim Khokan managed to jump into the nearby roadside pond out of his desperate effort to stay alive. 

Hearing Khokan’s screams, locals rescued him and took him to the nearby hospital. He was able to identify the attackers and told their names to his family and police officers. He was then transferred to a hospital in Dhaka as his condition worsened. Khokan succumbed to his injuries on January 3, 2026 in hospital in Dhaka.
