Complaints received about vandalizing the face and hands of the statue of Durga temple in Sajjankanda Madhyapara of Rajbari city. The temple is located in front of the local Kunjan Sarkar’s house adjacent to Barapul-Rajbari Road Transport Owners Association of the city.

The miscreants vandalized the statue sometime in the early hours of Tuesday morning. In the evening, the matter spread on social media. After fixing the idol, the pooja started today from Wednesday.

It was seen on the surface on Oct 9th morning that the idols have been repaired. Two male and two female Ansar members were guarding the temple wearing beating sticks. Many people including army members, police, social service department officials were there to inquire.

Deputy Commissioner (Acting) Siddharth Bhowmik, Superintendent of Police Mosa. Shamima Parveen and officers including army personnel visited the Puja mandap last night after receiving the news of vandalizing the idols.

The news reporter spoke to a local Barshan Das in the puja mandap. He said the Durga idol was surrounded with cloth and tin. Around 11 o’clock yesterday, they found that miscreants had vandalized the idol. The artists had finished the idol work till three o’clock on Monday night and went home. As a result, Mr. Das believes that the vandalism of idols took place sometime after Monday midnight to Tuesday morning. As there were no guards or CCTV cameras, the miscreants could not be identified. Later, the idol artists tried all day on Tuesday to fix the idol.

Sadhan Das, President of the Puja Celebration Committee, said on the phone, “We don’t want to do anything about this.” I don’t want to say anything to the media either. I want to celebrate the puja in harmony with the local residents.

Officer-in-charge of Rajbari Sadar Police Station. Mahmudur Rahman said that the police came to know about the incident through Facebook after yesterday evening. Durga Puja is being held in 110 mandaps of Sadar Upazila. 13 mobile teams are patrolling regularly to provide security. No one filed any complaint regarding the idol vandalism. He said that the police are working to catch the criminals

আজ সকালে সরেজমিনে দেখা যায়, প্রতিমাগুলো ঠিকঠাক করা হয়েছে। দুজন পুরুষ ও দুজন নারী আনসার সদস্য লাঠি হাতে পাহারায় আছেন। সেনাবাহিনীর সদস্য, পুলিশ, সমাজসেবা অধিদপ্তরের কর্মকর্তাসহ অনেকেই খোঁজখবর নিতে আসছেন।
প্রতিমা ভাঙার খবর পেয়ে গতকাল রাতেই পূজামণ্ডপ পরিদর্শন করেন জেলা প্রশাসক (ভারপ্রাপ্ত) সিদ্ধার্থ ভৌমিক, পুলিশ সুপার মোছা. শামীমা পারভিন ও সেনাবাহিনীর সদস্যসহ কর্মকর্তারা।

পূজামণ্ডপে কথা হয় স্থানীয় বর্ষণ দাসের সঙ্গে। তিনি বলেন, দুর্গাপ্রতিমা কাপড় ও টিন দিয়ে ঘিরে রাখা ছিল। গতকাল বেলা ১১টার দিকে তাঁরা দেখতে পান দুর্বৃত্তরা প্রতিমা ভাঙচুর করে ফেলে গেছে। সোমবার রাত তিনটা পর্যন্ত প্রতিমার কাজ শেষ করে বাড়ি যান তাঁরা। ফলে তাঁর ধারণা, সোমবার মধ্যরাতের পর থেকে গতকাল ভোরের মধ্যে কোনো এক সময় প্রতিমা ভাঙচুরের ঘটনা ঘটেছে। কোনো পাহারাদার বা সিসিটিভি ক্যামেরা না থাকায় দুর্বৃত্তদের শনাক্ত করা সম্ভব হয়নি। পরে প্রতিমাশিল্পীরা মঙ্গলবার সারা দিন চেষ্টা করে প্রতিমা ঠিকঠাক করেন।

পূজা উদ্‌যাপন কমিটির সভাপতি সাধন দাস মুঠোফোনে বলেন, ‘এ নিয়ে আমরা আর কোনো কিছু করতে চাচ্ছি না। মিডিয়াকেও কিছু বলতে চাচ্ছি না। এলাকাবাসীকে নিয়ে সম্প্রীতির বন্ধনে পূজা উদ্‌যাপন করতে চাই।’

রাজবাড়ী সদর থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা মো. মাহমুদুর রহমান বলেন, গতকাল সন্ধ্যার পর ফেসবুকের মাধ্যমে পুলিশ ঘটনাটি জানতে পারে। সদর উপজেলার ১১০টি মণ্ডপে দুর্গাপূজা হচ্ছে। নিরাপত্তা দিতে ১৩টি ভ্রাম্যমাণ দল নিয়মিত টহল দিচ্ছে। প্রতিমা ভাঙচুরের ঘটনায় কোনো অভিযোগ কেউ দেয়নি। অপরাধীদের ধরতে পুলিশ কাজ করছে বলে তিনি জানান।
