On Sunday, Feb 23, 2025, local Muslim Mizan gathered people and forcefully occupied multiple shops owned by some Hindu religious minority.
According to the shops’ owner Mr. Prem Kumar Dome’s video statement to the reporter of a news media named “Protidiner Bangladesh”, the OC (Officer-In-Charge) of the local Bakshiganj police station summoned him and kept him at the police station from 8 PM until midnight one night. The OC asked him to withdraw the three legal cases that he has pending at the court through mutual agreement. He responded to the OC that he would not withdraw the court cases but he would accept and act per the court decision once the court delivers a verdict. That he will hold on to ownership of the shops if he wins the cases. Alternatively, he will relinquish his ownership if he loses the cases.
After such an illegal proposal from the OC, Mr. Dome, sensing trouble, along with his family members met with the SP (Superintendent of Police) seeking support from the SP which is a higher police authority. The SP told Mr. Dome that the OC should not have interfered with his court cases given that the cases are pending decision with the court. The SP also assured Mr. Dome and family that the SP would contact the OC and tell him not to disturb Mr. Dome and his people. Mr. Dome left the SP’s office with the assurances from the SP.
After a few days, the defendants of Mr. Dome’s court cases filed a legal case against Mr. Dome in the court. Mr. Dome then submitted a petition to the judge at the local court that was approved by the judge. The very next day, the defendant Mr. Mizan and his people forcibly occupied Mr. Dome’s land and properties. During the occupation, Mr. Mizan told Mr. Dome that the SP and the OC have directed him to take over Mr. Dome’s properties. Mr. Mizan also claimed that he had the video footage of the directions from the SP and the OC.
The victim Mr. Prem Kumar Dome, a Hindu by religion, urged the “Protidiner Bangladesh” and the people of Bangladesh for justice given that the Muslim occupier acted with the support from the police officers. It can be noted that Hindu religious minorities are being widely attacked and persecuted across Bangladesh in the hands of majority Muslims with direct support from the Police force, Military force, and Judiciary of Bangladesh Government under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
